(KNX 1070) -- A California woman is feeling vindicated after winning a settlement against her deadbeat ex-husband for not paying child support -- going back 50 years.

Toni Anderson, 74 says that in the early 1970s her husband left her and their 3-year-old daughter and fled to Canada to avoid paying child support.

"I kind of put it on the back burner and just kind of forgot about it over the years," Anderson told ABC7.

Anderson, now retired, worked as an interior designer in Los Angeles to support herself and her daughter. She says money continues to be limited, and she rents out part of her home to help supplement her income.

After learning that there's no statute of limitations on child support, Anderson became determined to go after what she was owed by law -- calculated to be more than $170,000.

"I think he's a little bit panicked," Anderson surmised of her husband's reaction. "And I'm very happy because I was panicked all these years. Now, it's his turn." Anderson and her ex reached a settlement after a private hearing. She was awarded $150,000.
