In an interview with CNN on Monday, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said Casey Wasserman should step down as the head of the LA28 Olympic Committee.

“My opinion is that he should step down,” she told Dana Bash. “That's not the opinion of the board.”

Bass referenced the decision the Executive Committee of the Board of LA28 Committee made last week to have Wasserman continue to lead LA28, saying it was “unfortunate” and that she doesn’t support it.

“My job as mayor of Los Angeles is to make sure that our city is completely prepared to have the best Olympics that has ever happened in Olympic history, so my focus is a little different,” she said. But the behavior of Maxwell, what they were involved in, is abhorrent, and it's an issue that I've worked on for a long time.”

Bass previously told KNX News’ Alex Silverman that she did not have an opinion on Wasserman resigning.

“What people do need to understand in the city, though, is that LA28 is an independent nonprofit organization,” she said. “It is not a city agency, and whatever happens with the leadership or anything related to the games, it is up to the board, the executive committee, and the International Olympic Committee.”

Other political leaders who have called for Wasserman’s resignation include supervisors Janice Hahn and Lindsey Horvath, and council members Monica Rodriguez, Hugo Soto-Martinez, Imelda G. Padilla, and Los Angeles City Controller Kenneth Mejia.

Wasserman announced on Friday that he would be selling his talent agency.
