Antonio Villaraigosa is a familiar name around Los Angeles. He served as the city’s mayor from 2005 to 2013. Now, he’s running for governor of California.
“I think a lot of people, they don't want to hear from people who have never done anything closely approximating the responsibilities that come with being governor of this state,” he told Mike Simpson. “I'm the only one that's been a chief executive, and whether people liked me or not, I was everybody's mayor.”
While he is running as a Democrat, Villaraigosa said that the state’s affordability issue started under that same party.

Villaraigosa also pointed to California policy being the reason why the insurance industry in the state is in decline.
“We were the only state that didn't do catastrophic modeling,” he said. “The only state that didn't do reinsurance. The only state that approved price increases at about 15 to 18 months. Everyone else did it in three months or less.”
