Hotel workers rallied Friday in Downtown L.A. as part of their ongoing labor dispute. More than 30 hotels have agreed to improve pay and working conditions, but several are holding out, including Hotel Figueroa.
Workers picketing on S Figueroa St. were met with some powerful words of encouragement by Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.
"You are an inspiration, because of your courage, to millions of working people throughout this country," said the senator... "You are what keeps these hotels going."
KNX News' Margaret Carrero spoke with Kurt Petersen, Co-President of Union Local 11, who said they have been on strike at Hotel Figueroa five times now, but Friday's picketing event was an effort to bring "Everything we can to bear on this company to do the right thing."
He says they believe the hotel will comply with the union's demand, but the workers will do whatever it takes to win.
In addition to contract negotiation issues, the union accused Hotel Figueroa of illegally firing 100 food and beverage workers, but the hotel denied the allegation.
