LOS ANGELES (CNS) — Bank of America donated $250,000 — the equivalent of 1 million meals — to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank in hopes of addressing food insecurity issues in the area, the bank announced Thursday.
The money was generated through a bank pledge to donate $100 for every Los Angeles-area employee who received a COVID-19 booster shot during the month of January.
“Engaged partnerships in our community make the work of the Food Bank possible, especially as food banks all over continue pandemic response efforts while families are still recovering,” Michael Flood, president/CEO of the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, said in a statement. “We are fortunate to have partners such as Bank of America, who also prioritizes collaboration to help better serve the community, as well as the Los Angeles Dodger Foundation, a strong supporter of Bank of America and the Food Bank, that has also been vital in pandemic response efforts in L.A. County.”
According to the bank, it has donated nearly $1 million to hunger-relief efforts since the pandemic began, along with more than 1 million pieces of personal protective equipment to area nonprofits and food banks.
“As the pandemic continues to impact Los Angeles, food banks and hunger relief organizations are experiencing increased demand and higher costs to meet the needs of individuals and families,” said Raul A. Anaya, president of Bank of America Los Angeles.
