Voters in California are wasting no time getting their ballots in for the November 4th Special Election, which involves Prop 50.

Prop 50 is an effort by Democrats to pick up more seats in the House, countering moves by President Trump in other states to add Republican districts.

The Los Angeles Times reported that more than 3.4 million mail-in ballots have already been sent out.

Claremont McKenna College professor of Government Jack Pitney told KNX News’ Jon Baird that this is unusual.

“Normally, you would expect a special election to have very low turnout, especially because there's only one measure on the ballot and you don't have candidates for legislature doing get-out-the-vote drives,” he said.

Baird also spoke with residents in Westchester, who said people believe very strongly in Prop 50.

“I think that this is the most one of the most important ballot things that we can do right now,” one person said. “With what's going on with our administrations, it’s just insanity right now, and so we need to do something to protect ourselves.”

Pitney also said he believes Prop 50 will likely pass, but added that he also thinks that Republicans could end up netting a few seats in the House.
