Driver dies after car plunges off Malibu mountainside

MALIBU, Calif. (KNX) — A driver who died after his car went over the side of a mountain in Malibu was identified Saturday as 56-year-old Roland Delao, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

Delao, a resident of North Hollywood, was driving his car southbound on Kanan Dume Road, south of Dume Canyon Mountainway, at an unknown speed when his car crossed the northbound lanes and left the roadway. The car then entered the parking lot of a lookout area at mile maker 11.76, and crashed through a chain-link fence before plunging approximately 250 feet down the side of the mountain east of Kanan Dume.

Delao was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the 6 a.m. crash on Thursday.
