La Habra Heights firefighter accused of impersonating a police officer, conducting traffic stops and arrests

LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Investigators with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department have alleged Timothy Peel, 35, of Whittier, impersonated a police officer, conducting traffic stops, and even unlawfully detaining some of his victims.

Peel, an assistant fire chief for the city of La Habra Heights, allegedly used his 2020 white Chevy Silverado 2500 HD equipped with lights and a siren to conduct traffic stops.

He was arrested by deputies on Thursday after a search warrant was served on his home in Whittier. He faces charges of impersonating a peace officer and false imprisonment.

Peel bonded out of L.A. County jail Thursday afternoon after paying $100,000 in bail. He will return to court in Downey on Monday.

The L.A. County Sheriff’s Department has asked for the public’s help in finding additional victims that may have been unlawfully detained by Peel.
