The blaze sent a large plume of smoke over the northwest San Fernando Valley.

Crews arriving on scene found heavy smoke and flames on the first floor and toward the rear of the structure, LAFD spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz said.

All occupants safely evacuated the home. The injured firefighter was treated at the scene by paramedics, Lantz said.

About 40 firefighters worked to extinguish flames that spread throughout both floors of the single-family home, according to Lantz.

Los Angeles police assisted with traffic control, while the Department of Water and Power and building inspectors were also called to the scene, Lantz said.
