A crane operator was rescued Tuesday evening with no reported injuries after being stranded approximately 60 feet above the ground on Terminal Island for more than an hour.

Firefighters responded to the 700 block of New Dock Street around 7:50 p.m. Tuesday to assist a man trapped in the elevator of a dockside crane, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

``LAFD responders, including those specially trained, certified and equipped to perform specialized urban search and rescue, climbed the exterior of the rain-drenched crane to a location between levels, where they stabilized the elevator and forced open the elevator doors," Humphrey said.

The worker was assessed inside the elevator to confirm he sustained no injuries before being harnessed and walked down an auxiliary stairwell with firefighters, Humphrey said.

The completion of the rescue was reported at 9 p.m.
