LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Two construction workers were hospitalized Saturday after the wall of a four-foot-deep trench collapsed in Sun Valley, trapping them inside.

Firefighters and paramedics responded to a call shortly after 10 a.m. to a construction site at 9031 North El Dorado Avenue where they found one of the workers had escaped from the trench with a leg injury. He was transported to a trauma center with non-life-threatening injuries, according to L.A. Fire Department spokesperson Brian Humphrey.

Responders were able to pull the second worker from the trench after just over an hour. He also was transported to a trauma center to be treated for non-life-threatening leg injuries.

A third person at the scene later complained of back pain and was also taken to a hospital.

The injured men were working on an unspecified trenching project in the side yard of a residential home when the wall of the four-foot-deep trench gave way and a concrete slab fell, displacing soil.
