The heatwave in Southern California continues, with Wednesday expected to be the hottest day of the week.

Temperatures in the inland areas are expected to be between 90 and 110 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

“It's gonna be a significant heat wave with the warm overnight minimum, so that doesn't allow the atmosphere to cool off, and it kind of gives the heat the next day a rolling start,” NWS meteorologist Carol Ciliberti told KNX News. “And then the other factor is with some monsoonal moisture coming up from the south, it makes things more uncomfortable. You just tend to that added humidity just makes you feel the heat.”

For those looking to go to the beach to cool down, L.A. County Public Health officials have issued warnings for several beaches, including the Santa Monica Pier, Mother’s Beach in Marina Del Rey, and Inner Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro, due to high bacteria levels.

KNX News’ Jon Baird reported that along the Long Beach Peninsula, workers were building up the sand berms to protect beachfront homes as high king tides reached up to seven-and-a-half feet, raising coastal flooding concerns in low-lying communities.
