LOS ANGELES (KNX) — A wind advisory will be in effect from 3 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday for parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, according to the National Weather Service.

The advisory is issued for mountain regions of L.A. County, excluding the Santa Monica Mountains; the Santa Clarita and San Fernando valleys; and parts of Ventura County.

The forecast called for northeast Santa Ana winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour, with gusts up to 50 miles per hour.

NWS has warned residents that high winds can cause unsecured objects and tree limbs to blow around, making driving difficult, especially for taller vehicles like SUVs and pickup trucks. Freeways impacted by the advisory include the Golden State (5) and Antelope Valley (14) freeways.

Tree limbs can also be knocked down, causing power outages.

Winds will also drive up area temperatures, with forecasters predicting higher-than-normal temperatures for much of Thursday. Those conditions are expected to last through Saturday.
