Sanitation crews in hazmat gear worked to clean up a vacant lot Thursday on Varna Avenue in North Hollywood.
“It's finally happening, and we get to feel safe in our neighborhood again,” Samantha Miranda, a resident in the area, told KNX News’ Karen Adams.
She said the lot has been the scene of shootings, drug use, and fires, over the last 15 years.
Los Angeles City Councilmember Adrin Nazarian said they've given the property owner ample time to clean the lot up on their own.
“We've never heard from them. After numerous attempts and just in the year that I've been in office, a year and four months, we started this process about a year ago,” he said. “We've never been successful in getting anything back from them.”

The property owner will receive the bill for the cleanup, which is expected to take a few days. If they don’t pay the bill, Nazarian said the city could seize the property.
