There is a reservation that stretches about 1,100 acres between the San Bernardino National Forest and the cities of San Bernardino and Highland.
It's known for being a hot spot for predators, like coyotes, bobcats, and lots of snakes - not the ideal place for a lost family pet to wander.
But as Michael Carcano with San Manuel Band of Mission Indians tells Heroes producers Heather Jordan, this is a common occurrence.
Returning a lost family pet can be as simple as checking a chip or making a phone call. Other times, it requires a daring rescue, but Carcano and the other animal resource officers with the Tribe are always willing to face the challenge.
Carcano said he and a colleague recently saved a family's dog from a ravine in a rescue that lasted through the night.

In some cases, they find stray dogs with no home to return to and in those instances, Carcano said, "We really do our best to go above and beyond. Training these dogs, walking with them every single day, and we're using different methods to promote how to get these dogs adopted."

The team of resource officers with the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians are dedicated to keeping the community, their pets, and local wildlife safe - making them our KNX helpful Honda Heroes of the Week.
