The man caught on video trying to carjack three women on the east side of Los Angeles was taken into custody.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Maurice Latorre was hospitalized at General Medical Center Thursday morning. A nurse recognized him and called the police.

The attempted carjackings took place over the course of Nov. 9.

The first victim was pumping gas in the 3200 block of North Broadway around 10:40 a.m. Surveillance footage showed the woman trying to get into her car when Latorre was seen opening the door and trying to push the victim into the passenger seat. Eventually, the victim was able to get him out of the car.

The second victim was walking into her car in the 2100 block of North Broadway around 1:50 p.m. Footage showed a woman helping her kids into the car when Latorre was seen smashing the window to the driver's side an object. The woman screamed and Latorre left the area.

Just before 5 p.m. in the 2900 block of East Cesar E. Chavez Avenue, the victim was finishing pumping gas into her and when she went to get in, police say Latorre tried to get into the driver’s side of the car. He reportedly pulled her out and struggles ensued when a passerby pulled him off the woman. Latorre then took off.

Police described Latorre as “49-year-old male Hispanic, with black hair, black eyes, standing 5 feet 9 inches tall, and weighing 180 lbs.” He considered armed and dangerous.
