Faith leaders from around the country have been gathering in Minneapolis to be a witness to what's been happening and to stand in peaceful protest. Among them was Valarie Kaur, a Los Angeles woman and the founder and leader of the Revolutionary Love Project.

“I thought I knew what I was going into when I went to Minneapolis,” she told KNX News. “When I came home, I sobbed when I walked through the door because my body finally knew I was safe. I had never been in an occupied city before. I did not know an American city could feel occupied. I did not know that you could be moving through a field where terror, danger could happen at any time, and any person you spoke with had a story where it had just happened to them or someone they loved.”

She said that while the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti created such a feeling of terror, the people of Minneapolis and Minnesota created networks of care to stand up for each other.

“It's like Minnesota has created an underground civil society where they are teaching kids in hybrid underground schools because schools are not safe,” she said. “They are delivering groceries and supplies to families and hiding because stores are not safe. They're doing midwifery underground because hospitals are not safe.”

Kaur is hosting "Healing Circle for Minneapolis" at 5 pm Wednesday on Zoom as a way to transform the grief and pain people are feeling into courageous action
