LOS ANGELES (KNX) — The Los Angeles Police Department will establish a task force to investigate follow-home robberies.

Chief Michael Moore announced on Tuesday the Robbery Homicide Follow-Home Robbery Task Force will include officials from the department’s Gang Narcotics Division and Metropolitan division, as well as robbery homicide detectives, according to My News LA.

“They'll work moving forward on identifying these individuals responsible and pursuing and bringing them before the criminal justice system,'' Moore explained.
“The impact this is having on the sense of community, of safety, is profound.''

The new task force comes hours after a man was shot and killed outside the Bossa Nova Restaurant early Tuesday morning. Authorities said a male victim was sitting in his car with a woman when eight people attempted to rob the woman. Gunfire was exchanged between the man and the robbers. The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Chief Moore added that while robberies in Los Angeles have lowered, they’re becoming more violent and people need to be more vigilant.

“There’s no item of jewelry or piece of property that they have that is worth their life, and so if they find themselves in such a perilous situation, to cooperate, be a good witness. … do not chase people, do not try to pursue people and do not try to take actions yourself other than to minimize the chance that you become a victim of the type of violence we saw this morning,” he said.
