Teen struck near Berendo Middle School, LAUSD Superintendent said

LOS ANGELES (KNX) – A student was hit by a driver Wednesday in downtown Los Angeles, according to LAUSD Superintendent Alberto Carvalho.

Carvalho told the Los Angeles City Council the 14-year-old was struck near Berendo Middle School in downtown Los Angeles.

Further details regarding the collision were not released.

Prior to his appearance at the City Council meeting, Carvalho tweeted, “We need immediate staffing of crossing guards, more enforcement around schools specific to speed limits and legislation to provide additional safety precautions and measures to ensure safe passages to schools.”

It happened one day after a man struck a woman and child near Hancock Park Elementary School. The woman was pronounced dead. The child was hospitalized and remains in critical condition.
