The Los Angeles Unified School District is embracing artificial intelligence.
A New AI tool named “Ed,” which is essentially a personal assistant, was rolled out to 100 schools and more than 50,000 students across the district. It can wake students up every morning, speak their language of preference, tell them what food will be in the cafeteria, and create individualized plans for each student.
KNX News’ Nataly Tavidian spoke to a high school senior as they checked it out for the first time. Tavidian and the student asked “Ed” for help with geometry, and it took them to a tutoring website.

“I think it's also a big resource, especially for myself, I feel like because every student is different and everyone has different needs. So it's very necessary that we all have equally met standards,” the student said.
LAUSD Superintendent Alberto Carvalho said the AI tool will never replace people, and they’ve taken a lot of cybersecurity measures to keep parents' and students' data safe.
