On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners voted to approve higher fees that will increase costs for some rides to and from LAX.

The current fee of $4 will be increased to $12 for terminal access and $6 at the Ground Transport Center, according to City News Service.

LAWA officials say they've been studying this issue for years and are doing this to cut down on traffic congestion in the central terminal area while trying to encourage people to use the new Skylink people mover system.

Some rideshare drivers and others told the commissioners they're worried the fees will be passed on to customers or the drivers, but officials and commissioners said that's up to the rideshare companies.
