Long Beach street vendors are concerned that increased fees are going to drive them out of business.

New rules that would push the fees up to $2,000 for street vendors are getting closer to being put in place.

Some vendors say they make a few hundred dollars a week and that the fees are too high.

“For you, $300 may not seem like a lot,” Gaby Hernandez, executive director of ORALE, said. “But for someone that makes $20,000 a year, it's a ridiculous amount of money.”

However, Long Beach opted to offer a subsidy to help the vendors pay for things like business licenses and insurance permits, according to the Long Beach Post.

Each of the impacted vendors, about 160, may qualify for $1,500 that would go towards the cost of registering with the city.
