Man killed in Canoga Park hit-and-run; driver arrested

A Northridge man was arrested Friday in connection with the hit-and-run death of a pedestrian in Canoga Park.

The fatal crash occurred at around 1:10 a.m. Friday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The pedestrian was walking across Sherman Way just east of Independence Avenue when he was struck by a Mercedes-Benz that was eastbound on the same street, police said. The driver did not stop, identify themselves or provide aid as the law requires.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His name was not released but he was described by the Medical Examiner's office as a man in his 60s.

The alleged hit-and-run driver returned to the scene while detectives were there investigating the crash, police said. Marvin Edgardo Pineda, 29, was arrested and booked for suspicion of felony hit-and-run.

Sheriff's online inmate information showed Pineda was arrested at 5:45 a.m.
