KNX Hero: Mentoring military members transitioning from service

For many members of the military, the daunting task of finding the right career after years of service can be a source of immense stress. That's where our KNX Hero of the Week, Adam Van Dyke steps in.

He's a man of many titles. In addition to working in talent acquisitions at Northrop Grumman, he is a certified life coach, a dad, and a husband.

One responsibility Van Dyke takes great pride in is volunteering as a mentor, helping clients transition out of the military onto a path that's fulfilling and respectful of their incredible, hard-earned skills.

Van Dyke tells Heroes Host Heather Jordan, "When military members are transitioning out of the military, it tends to be kind of an unknown. So, part of my opportunity of service is to help them to understand not just the CONOPSs of transitioning out of the military but also to be able to help them, more importantly, to tell their authentic story."

He says his clients often struggle to see how their "20 years in the infantry or eight years turning wrenches on an airplane" can translate into working a civilian job, but he knows from experience that there are meaningful connections to be made.

"I learned a long time ago that for every person on their knee praying for help, there is a person out there matched to them who's on their knee praying for an opportunity to serve."

Helping with resumes, searching for jobs, and simply lending a hand - listen to the in-depth interview above as our KNX Hero of the Week, Adam Van Dyke of Orange County details the fantastic work he is doing for the community.
