Jim McDonnell expected to be named the next LAPD police chief

Mayor Karen Bass is expected to announce that former L.A. County sheriff Jim McDonnell will be named the next police chief in Los Angeles during a press conference on Friday, according to the Los Angeles Times.

An insider told KNX News Chief Correspondent Charles Feldman that the 9 a.m. press conference will “make L.A. safer.”

According to the Los Angeles Times, the finalists are LAPD deputy chief Emada Tingirides, former assistant chief Robert Arcos, and former L.A. County sheriff Jim McDonnell.

Former police chief Michael Moore retired on February 29. Interim LAPD Chief Dominic Choi was sworn in on March 1.
