More than a dozen members of the Menendez family will gather in downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday afternoon to plead for the release of Lyle and Erik Menendez.

The brothers have spent more than 35 years in prison for the 1989 shooting death of their parents, Kitty and José Menendez.

The case returned to the spotlight after the release of Netflix’s “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.”

Family members want the brothers re-sentenced and released in light of more evidence coming out supporting the brothers' claims they suffered severe child sexual abuse at the hands of their father.

Those relatives include Anamaria Baralt, the niece of José Menendez, and Karen VanderMolen and Brian A. Anderson Jr., the niece and nephew of Kitty Menendez, according to NBC News.

Robert Rand, a journalist who not only followed the case but uncovered the new evidence and produced the documentary ‘Menendez + Menudo: Boys Betrayed” on Peacock, told KNX News’ Emily Valdez he will also be there.

“Kitty’s sister, Joan VanderMolen – who, by the way, turns 93 next month – she will be there and there will be a number of relatives, cousins of the brothers from all over the country,” he said.

He added that Rosie O'Donnell will be speaking at the event.

On Oct. 3, District Attorney George Gascón announced his office was reviewing the case. In an exclusive interview, Gascón told KNX News’ Countdown 2024 Program that his office has been working on the case for a while.

“We have been trying to handle this sometime between October, November this year and there has been the case for months,” he said. “Those are complex cases that require a lot of reinvestigation, especially this is a case that is 35 years old.”

A hearing on the case is set for November.
