Seven injured as F-35 crash lands on USS Carl Vinson

PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (KNX) — Seven Navy sailors, including a pilot, suffered injuries Monday following a flight landing mishap that required the pilot of an F-35C to eject, according to Navy officials.

Officials said the pilot had a "landing mishap on deck" while USS Carl Vinson was conducting routine flight operations in the South China Sea.

The pilot was able to safely eject from the aircraft and was recovered via U.S. military helicopter, the Navy said, adding that they are in stable condition. Six others were injured in the mishap.

"There were seven total Sailors injured," officials said in a statement, "Three Sailors required MEDEVAC to a medical treatment facility in Manila, Philippines and four were treated by on-board medical personnel."

All three who required medical evacuation were assessed and determined to be stable, officials said.

Of the four Sailors treated by on-board medical, three were released. Additional details and the cause of the mishap are under investigation.
