The ruling is part of a temporary restraining order requested by attorneys for a woman in Altadena whose home burned in the blaze. She’s one of several residents suing the utility for its alleged role in starting the fire.
According to the L.A. Times, the attorneys want the area around an SCE electrical tower, where some of the first flames were spotted, to be preserved. The tower is also the focus of a Cal Fire investigation.
The judge’s ruling orders SCE to consult with attorneys for the plaintiffs to determine the exact boundaries for the area where evidence should be preserved.
Attorneys for SCE opposed the order, saying they've already been cooperating with requests and documenting repairs and replacement of equipment.
At least 20 lawsuits have been filed in connection with the Eaton Fire, which has destroyed over 9,400 structures and killed at least 17 people.
