Last Friday, 30-year-old Hannah Kobayashi of Maui, Hawaii, started what was supposed to be a short trip to New York City, N.Y. to visit her aunt. However, she never made her connecting flight at LAX in Los Angeles, Calif.
Her family told KNX News’ Nataly Tavidian this weekend that strange texts they received from Kobayashi’s phone have them fearing for her safety. Larie Pigeon, the woman’s aunt, said that texts from her niece went from being positive and excited about the trip to scared – including mentions of possible identity theft.
“The reason they’re so weird is that’s not something that she would say – do you know what I mean? She would never make someone worry for no reason,” Pigeon said. “So, we’re alarmed. We’re scared.”
She also told KNX that Kobayashi didn’t make the connecting flight because she went out exploring and that her niece does not have any friends or relatives in the L.A. area. Family members have traveled to the city to search for her.
A GoFundMe was created to help support her family as they search for her.
Kobayashi’s last pinned location was at LAX Monday. Anyone who sees her should contact authorities. Here are photos of Kobayashi:
