Some Los Angeles Unified School District students in Studio City watched the partial solar eclipse with safety glasses on Monday.

KNX News’ Emily Valdez went to Carpenter Community Charter Elementary and spoke to students who were able to experience the eclipse.

“Well, I thought the whole experience is really cool and you get to learn about, like the eclipse and a bunch of other like different experiences,” said Elle, a fifth grader who wants to be a rocket scientist.

LAUSD Superintendent Alberto Carvalho joined the students in watching the eclipse. He said there was a NASA astronaut, a rocket scientist, and artists at the school eclipse event.

“We’re teaching them fundamental principles of science in a fun, exciting way,” he said.

The viewing event was organized by Chantelle Baier, who owns the company 4SPACE.

“So my daughter goes to Carpenter Community Charter and it was really important to me to bring together the community so that we can enjoy the eclipse,” she said. “We're not in full totality here, we get about 50%.”

Staff from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena also came to the school to give a talk about all of the safety procedures.

The next time there’s a total eclipse, these kids will be in their 30s.
