RESEDA, Calif. (KNX) – More details about substance that caused two Ventura County detectives to go to the hospital Tuesday have been revealed.
Los Angeles County Hazmat teams “confirmed the presence of dangerous opiates” in the substance, according to a press release by the sheriff’s department. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office crime lab is working to identify what the exact substance is.
The detectives were serving a warrant to Alexandro Gomez in connection to a burglary in Thousand Oaks in January. He was arrested before the detectives went inside the residence on W. Sherman Way in Reseda. Once inside, one of the detectives lost consciousness after inhaling a powder-like substance. She and the other detective were taken to the hospital.
Officials said both detectives are in good condition and expected to make a full recovery.
