Torrance police fatally shoot person near industrial park

Torrance police Tuesday were continuing to investigate a fatal shooting by officers near an industrial park.

Officers deployed shortly before 6 p.m. Monday to the 2900 block of Oregon Court, near Maple Avenue and Del Amo Boulevard, in response to "a suspicious circumstances call," according to the Torrance Police Department.

At the location, a suspect was contacted and officers shot them, according to the department. A tent was seen erected on the roadway covering the person's body.

The circumstances of the shooting remained unclear. It was unknown what prompted police to open fire.

"We recognize the seriousness of this incident and understand the concerns it raises within our community. There is no danger to the community members," according to a statement from the department. "An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting is currently underway. Our commitment to transparency and accountability remains steadfast. We appreciate the community members' patience as we investigate this incident."
