“Working with so many of you to achieve the promise of our incredible Trojan Family brings me joy and inspiration each day,” Folt said in a statement. “After more than twenty years of leadership at three great universities, however, I am excited to embrace the freedom that comes with a next big leap, and to pass the baton to the next president who will be able to build upon our accomplishments and create a new chapter for this extraordinary institution.”

She touted her successes in investing $1 billion in computing, reorganizing USC Health Sciences, upgrading athletics facilities, expanding student mental services and cultural spaces, and more. Folt, the 12th president of the college, started her tenure in July 2019.

Folt came under fire this spring for her handling of pro-Palestinian protests on campus, including preventing valedictorian Asna Tabassum from speaking at commencement because of her pro-Palestinian views. The USC Academic Senate voted to censure her in May.
