Three weeks after a massive storm hit Southern California and caused major mudslides on Mulholland Drive in Studio City, crews are hard at work to reopen a mile-long stretch of the mountain roadway.

KNX News’ Pete Demetriou reported that it could take up to three months to complete the construction. He spoke to Mary Nemick, Spokesperson for the Bureau of Engineering, who said geotechnical engineering teams assessed the mudslide and hired construction crews to install bulkhead fixes in the area.

“What they consist of is what's called cast and drilled coal piles with steel beams, concrete panels, catch basin drainage pipe, all of this goes into that kind of repair,” Nemick said.

The cost of this project, plus filling in the area below the four mudslide locations, should be around $3.5 million.

Crews are aiming to reopen Mulholland sometime in May.
