Mexico and South Korea are set to play in the World Cup, and fans from both teams are gathering in Koreatown.
The watch party at the park is free and takes place at the intersection of Irolo and San Marino streets. The event has a large video screen and food vendors that are attracting fans from across the area.
“It's a good time for people from both countries,” one fan said KNX News’ Craig Fiegener. “And it's cool to see everyone coming together and unite for the game.”
Lots of fans at the event are rooting for Mexico, though one Mexico fan says both teams have had a strong start.
“It's a really close game just because how both teams played their first games, but Korea looked pretty strong,” said the fan. “They came back 2-1 against Czechia, so it's not like they're an easy team and then Mexico had a good 2-0 win… hopefully it ends up with Mexico winning today.”
Fans say the event is bringing together diverse supporters who are looking to engage with their community through soccer.
“It's cool to see no rivalries out in the World Cup,” said one fan. “Everybody's out here to play in the World Cup and just making it at this point is pretty big for every country.”
Mexico will host South Korea at Guadalajara Stadium at 6 p.m.
