Waters off Newport Beach closed to swimmers after restaurant sewage spill

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (KNX) — Waters off the coast of Newport Beach were closed to swimmers on Tuesday from the west end of Newport Bay to 8th Street, following reports of a sewage spill.

The Orange County Health Care Agency’s Environmental Health Division Monday morning, disclosing that between 35,000 and 50,000 gallons of sewage leaked into local waters due to a blocked sewer line at an area restaurant.

The impacted area will remain closed to swimming, surfing, and diving until county public health officials have confirmed water quality meets acceptable standards.
