LOS ANGELES (KNX) – New research from Stanford University found that teachers were able to use artificial intelligence to improve their interactions with students.

The study looked at “an automated tool based on natural language processing to give teachers feedback on their uptake of student contributions, a high-leverage dialogic teaching practice that makes students feel heard.”

It also recorded online classes and created a transcript of everything.

The tool, M-Powering Teachers, not only boosted how teachers took in students’ ideas but also bettered how the student performed in the classroom.

Dora Demszky, the study’s lead author, compared the tool to an app.

“The teachers could see their report on a dashboard in a sort of descriptive and non-judgmental way that is only private to them kind of like a fitness tracker or Fitbit,” she said.

She said it also looks into “dimensions of instruction quality.”

Demszky told KNX News she wants it to become an open-source tool in the future.

KNX News will take an in-depth look into A.I. in a special town hall presentation: “Reality in an A.I. World.” The event will be held live from the Audacy SoundSpace on L.A.’s Miracle Mile on May 18 at 4:00 p.m. To get your free tickets, click here.
