It's been decades since restaurants stopped offering super-sized portions and trimmed their menus in a effort to cut calories as Americans were looking for healthier food options.
Now, fast food is getting bigger again with three popular places making mammoth new additions to their menus.
First up -- the McDonald's Big Mac is getting even bigger and saucier in 2024. Say hello to the Double Big Mac, stacked with four beef patties instead of the usual two and is topped with more special sauce. It also comes with the standard lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions on a sesame seed bun.
The Double Big Mac is available to order at participating McDonald's restaurants nationwide for a limited time.
Last year, McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski said customers could expect to see bigger burgers on the menu in the future, telling CNN that "having a large burger is a [business] opportunity."
Next -- the sandwich chain famous for its footlongs couldn't let subs be the only thing packing 12-inches on its menu. Subway has rolled out a trio of footlong snacks that it calls "Sidekicks."
There's the Cinnabon Footlong Churro for $2, served warm and topped with cinnamon and sugar; the Auntie Anne's Footlong Pretzel for $3, served with a side of honey mustard; and the Footlong Cookie for $5, thick, gooey and packed with chocolate chips.
Subway says the new snacks kick off "a year of culinary innovation and delicious new menu items."

Finally -- Costco is switching up the menu at its food court. Famous for its $1.50 hot dog and soda combo, the retailer is replacing the beloved twisted churro with a gigantic double chocolate chunk cookie. The "all butter" cookie, made with bittersweet and semisweet chocolate and served warm, is expected to arrive in all clubs by the end of January, Axios reported. The cookie sells for $2.49 and has 750 calories, according to the report.
