Hyundai is recalling nearly 67,000 vehicles in the U.S. to fix two issues that could increase the risk of a crash.
The first recall involves certain Veloster N, Genesis G70, Elantra N and Kona N vehicles with 2.0L turbocharged engines. The automaker says the fuel pump may fail, which can result in a loss of drive power.
According to a recall notice posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the vehicles have a fuel control valve that -- due to gradual wear -- may allow excess fuel to enter the fuel pump.
"An air/fuel mixture that runs too 'rich' may result in a reduction or loss of motive power at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash," the notice says.
Vehicles subject to the recall include:
• 33,568 model year 2019-2023 Genesis G70
• 8,842 model year 2019-2022 Veloster N
• 8,533 model year 2022-2023 Elantra N
• 3,704 model year 2022-2023 Kona N
The automaker said it is not aware of any injuries or crashes related to the issue. However, it has confirmed 2,460 related incident reports received from May 10, 2019 through June 17, 2024.
Hyundai will inform the owners of recalled vehicles by early September and dealers will inspect and replace the fuel pump assembly, as necessary.
The second recall involves certain 2024 Santa Fe vehicles that may experience a software error in the transmission control unit, which could result in a vehicle roll away when the vehicle is in park.
According to the recall notice, a glitch in the software logic could inadvertently engage the clutches and damage the transmission case and parking pawl, allowing the vehicles to roll away when parked.
"Vehicle rollaway increases the risk of a crash and injury to occupants or
bystanders," the notice says.
The recall includes 12,349 Santa Fe vehicles that were built between April 23, 2024 and July 2, 2024.
