Imagine waiting 32 years to meet your biological father...and it happens during a pandemic.

Meet Andrea Lyon, a Minnesota-born journalist who is working in Tampa.

Lyon has been trying for years to find her biological father.

"I was just curious, because there's always that void," she said. "You just don't know."

She started her search at age 15, after growing up with her grandfather as her only father-figure.

After hitting several dead ends, including a DNA spit-test that turned up dozens of names she never heard of, Andrea last month turned to a free website that led to the discovery of an acquaintance's birth father.

"No emotions involved," she said, acknowledging that this wasn't something that she had to find out and that her other efforts weren't successful.

"It really wasn't an emotional process for me until I found out who he was," she said.

It took about a week and a half.

"I always wish I did have a daughter, but I never thought it would come to this," said Butch Johnson, who didn't remember Andrea's mother.

She didn't remember Butch, either.

"I didn't expect them to," said Andrea.

He said the two weeks leading up to finally meeting his daughter was very emotional.

"It's been pretty tough, a lot of crying," he said, noting that he also has a son.

"I was hoping for more siblings, but I'll take the one," said Andrea, with a laugh.
