Govs. Kathy Hochul, Phil Murphy and Ned Lamont of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut issued orders for flags to fly at half-staff Saturday at state buildings.
“We will never forget those taken from us that day, nor will we forget the sacrifices and efforts of first responders who saved the lives of countless civilians,” said Murphy.
In New York, 13 landmarks will be lit blue in remembrance, including One World Trade Center, the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, the Kosciuszko Bridge, the LIRR’s East End Gateway at Penn Station and more.
“We remember the victims and the brave first responders who lost their lives in the most unfathomable way, and we honor the survivors and victim's families who were tragically impacted by the attack. We will continue to stand together stronger and united as one New York State,” said Hochul.
In Connecticut, New Haven’s Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge will be lit up in red, white and blue.
“On this terrible day 20 years ago, tragedy struck close to home, changing the lives of so many families here in Connecticut and throughout the United States,” Lamont said. “We will forever pay tribute to the innocent lives that were taken all too soon and honor the heroism of those who gave their lives while rescuing others.”
The commemorations come alongside a long list of memorials this weekend in all three states, including Saturday’s event at Ground Zero. Connecticut held a ceremony at Sherwood Island State Park Thursday.
