The Ralphs supermarket chain announced Wednesday that its stores will become vaccine distribution sites as soon as it gets the green light from the authorities.

So you could get vaccinated while shopping for milk and eggs after the FDA makes the coronavirus vaccine available for widespread distribution.

LA County officials said this week the first round of vaccine could arrive as early as next week with roughly 84,000 doses becoming available for health care workers first.

John Votava from Ralphs tells KNX 1070 News the supermarket chain has been working with the California Department of Health and the federal government to lay the groundwork.

"We do have capacity to store vials at the requested temperatures. So we will be prepared to store as well as distribute those vaccines when available," he says.

It also helps that grocery stores already have ultra cold storage.

Ralphs has 77 pharmacies in the Southern California area.

The grocery store chain is already offering free drive-through COVID-19 testing along with affordable antibody testing.

When the time comes for the general public to get vaccinated, the list of places you can get it just got longer. CVS and Walgreens are also onboard and are hiring to help vaccinate people. Both are also going to be administering the vaccine at nursing home facilities, according to an ABC 7 story.
