As a child there was often nobody you trusted more than your parents.  As far as kids go, parents are omniscient.

These days the tides appear to be turning though, and kids are placing their faith in something other than mom and dad.

A new study published in Computers in Human Behavior found that kids today between the ages of three and six trust robots more than they do their own parents!

Researchers had a group of kids watch videos of robots and humans labeling different objects, and sometimes mislabeling them, like labeling a picture of a plate as a ball.

The kids were more inclined to trust the labels the robots made versus humans and were even more forgiving if the robots mislabeled an object, thinking they made an accident whereas for humans, they believed they mislabeled the objects on purpose.

Per the NY Post, researchers also asked kids who they'd prefer to learn from and share secrets with, and most of them said robots for both!

According to researchers, “These findings suggest that not only do children perceive robot and human errors differently, but that when it comes to evaluating robot errors, children’s conceptualizations of the robots reliability, social desirability, and perceived agency are conceptually distinct and do not necessarily lead to a negative impact on the interaction.”
