Former President Donald Trump, 77, really wants to challenge President Joe Biden, 81, in a cognitive test battle.
In a Monday Truth Social post, the current GOP frontrunner said that he “just took a cognitive test as part of my Physical Exam, and ACED it,” adding that he also “ACED” a test while in office.
He also said that “Biden should take one so we can determine why he wants Open Borders, No Energy Independence, A Woke Military, High Inflation, No Voter I.D., Men playing In Women’s Sports, Only Electric Cars & Trucks, A Weaponized DOJ/FBI, and so many other CRAZY things!!!”
It’s not the first time that Trump has challenged Biden to a cognition-off. In a September Truth Social post, he said: “I hereby challenge Rupert Murdoch & Sons, Biden, WSJ heads, to acuity tests!” after the results of a Wall Street Journal poll were released. In February, he also said he thought anyone running for president should be required to “take a full & complete Mental Competency Test simultaneously.”
Biden has announced that he plans to run again in 2024, but some have argued that he might be too old for another term – he’ll be 86 by the time the term is over. Trump frequently pokes fun at the current Commander-in-Chief for his occasional falls and verbal gaffes.
However, Trump – who is just a few years younger than Biden – has also been criticized for his mental competency. After he called for mental competency tests for candidates in February, Bess Levin wrote that Trump’s “brain is held together by thumbtacks and silly putty,” for a piece in Vanity Fair. At the time, Reuters reported that Biden’s doctor found the president healthy and “fit for duty” after an exam.
In his Monday post, Trump also addressed his tendency to mix up Biden with former President Barack Obama (who Biden served as vice president under), which some have pointed to as a sign of mental aging. He claimed that he mixes them up on purpose for comedic purposes.
So far, it looks as though Trump and Biden will be running against each other for a second time in 2024, after Biden beat Trump in the 2020 election. Recent polling results gathered by FiveThirtyEight show that Trump has a favorability rating just over 42% while Biden has an approval rating around 39%.
