Bloomberg News reported today that former President Donald Trump is telling allies he’s strongly considering another run for president in 2024 -- and his allies are advising him to choose someone other than former Vice President Mike Pence to run on his ticket.
While speaking last Sunday at the Conservative Political Action Conference, Trump said publicly that he is considering a run in 2024, and he has discussed privately possible running mates other than Pence, Bloomberg News says.
Speaking anonymously, Trump’s advisers have allegedly spoken about a woman or Black candidate as his running mate.
“President Trump hasn’t made any decisions regarding a potential 2024 run, but the buried lede here is that the media can’t stop talking about him,” Trump adviser Jason Miller told Bloomberg.
Although Pence was invited to speak at CPAC, weeks before the event he bowed out;
Pence would normally be a strong contender to run for president in 2024, but as Bloomberg reports, in a Harvard-Harris poll conducted Feb. 23-25, 42% of Republican voters preferred Trump as their 2024 nominee, compared to 18% for Pence, who placed second.
