(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Forget the flash cards. An Irvine, Calif.-based company is teaching foreign languages in the Metaverse.
Quinn Taber is the CEO of Immerse, which offers immersive foreign language courses without the need for travel or spending a semester abroad. Students simply put on Virtual Reality headsets and enter the virtual realm.

“They can travel to a virtual Madrid, meet with a real-life Spanish teacher and practice in a task-based, immersive context, which is really what learning science says is the only true way achieve fluency,” Taber told the Noon Business Hour on Friday.
Taber said the quality of the experience will only improve as VR technology becomes more refined.
“The tech is the thing that we’re most bullish on improving really, really quickly. That’s the one that we’re stoked about right now,” he said.
