SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KNX) — Democratic Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon of Lakewood skipped out on Thursday’s legislative session at the Capitol after he was potentially exposed to COVID-19 at a going away party.

Rendon’s office said he was in attendance at a goodbye party for outgoing Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez (D.-San Diego) on Tuesday, according to The Sacramento Bee.

State Sen. Josh Becker (D.-Menlo Park), who also attended the Sacramento party, announced the following day he had tested positive for COVID-19 via Twitter. Becker said he was feeling fine and mentioned he was vaccinated and boosted against the virus.

Rendon decided to stay home from Thursday’s session out of an “abundance of caution” and tested negative Thursday morning, a spokesperson told the publication.

“While CDPH guidelines do not require isolation for vaccinated and boosted individuals following potential exposure, out of an abundance of caution, the Speaker asked members who attended Tuesday’s event to stay home from session today,” his spokesperson said in a statement. “They will test again Monday morning before being admitted to floor session.”
