California will distribute another round of Golden State Stimulus checks to eligible residents next week, according to the state Franchise Tax Board.
The first round checks were disbursed on Aug. 27. Approximately 600,000 payments worth an estimated $354 million were deposited into the bank accounts of qualifying Californians that Friday.
Those who made less than $75,000 in 2020 income may be eligible to receive up to $600, with an additional $500 reserved for those who can claim at least one dependent. Some Social Security recipients may also be eligible for a second-round check, provided Social Security is not their only form of income and they earn less than $75,000 a year.
To receive a payment, all eligible Californians must have submitted their 2020 tax returns prior to Oct. 15, 2021.
The forthcoming round of disbursements is expected to be much larger than the last—about two million payments, a Franchise Tax Board spokesperson told KTLA.
Sacramento plans to send out payments about every two weeks for the duration of the program.
In all, a total of $12 billion in direct payments is expected to go out to eligible state residents. Roughly two out of every three Californians is projected to receive a check.
The funds came from a recently passed $100 billion state budget. The program is aimed to help residents especially hard-hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.
