SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KNX)— A former Northern California college teacher was indicted by a federal grand jury for multiple fires that were set near the Dixie Fire.

47-year-old Gary Stephen Maynard is facing “four counts of arson to federal property and a count of setting timber afire,” according to the Sacramento Bee.

He could face up to 20 years in prison.

In July, he was accused of igniting fires in the Cascare Fire as well as the Everitt Fire, the news outlet reported.  In August, Maynard was accused of starting fires in the Ranch Fire in Lassen National Forest.

Maynard was a professor in the sociology department at multiple colleges, including Santa Clara University and Sonoma State University.
