OXNARD, Calif. (KNX) – Police in Oxnard arrested a felon on suspicion of possession of a firearm following a two-hour standoff.
Following a month-long investigation into “narcotics activity” at a house on West Date Street, the Oxnard Police Department Drug Enforcement Units learned Jesus Rangel was not only involved in the transactions but that he had a felony warrant for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
On Tuesday, detectives, along with the Oxnard SWAT team, Oxnard K9 Unit, Oxnard Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Unit and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, served a search warrant at the house when they saw Rangel go into the residence from the garage.
The other occupants inside the house left, but officers said Rangel refused to leave.
“SWAT officers put chemical irritants inside of the residence in an attempt to gain compliance,” the department wrote on Facebook. “After approximately five minutes of the irritants being placed inside of the residence, Rangel broke out a rear window of the residence and surrendered to the officers.”
During a search, detectives found two loaded firearms, as well as “large amounts of money, narcotics, and indicia of narcotics sales.”
Rangel was arrested and booked into Ventura County Jail without bail.
